Marlie Mahogany started as a shampoo girl in a doobie shop in Newark, NJ, when she was 14. It didn't take long before family, friends and neighbors were trusting her with their hair.
After moving to Atlanta, she studied psychology, but doing hair kept calling her back. She went to work for a celebrity hairstylist and learned the business from the inside. Then came Royal Crown Barbershop in West End, where she spent 10 years as a natural hairstylist.
Atlanta is also where Marlie organized with her community against systemic oppression and police brutality. That work changed how she thinks about giving back. For her, helping Black women take care of their hair and move away from harmful products is part of that same care for community.
Today she works full-time in her own studio, offering dedicated services and essential products to the natural hair community.
